Google Apps: Changing the Domain “A Record”

In order to use Google Apps (for email, docs, calendar), we need to split up how the domain is used. For example, we’ll be using mail at Google’s servers, but we’ll have the website hosted elsewhere. This video covers how to point the domain to an IP address and thus a certain host–this is using the A record.

To split up how a domain is used, we’ll need advanced DNS (domain name server) control. At GoDaddy, it’s called “parking” your domain. It tells GoDaddy that you want the advanced controls of the domain so you can split things up.
